The Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) will expire on June 30, 2036, which is 16 years after it came into force on July 1, 2020. However, the agreement can be extended for successive 16-year terms if all parties agree to renew it. A mandatory joint review of the agreement is scheduled for July 1, 2026, which is the first opportunity for the parties to consider revisions and decide whether to extend the agreement beyond 2036. If one or more parties do not agree to extend, annual reviews will be triggered, and the agreement could terminate at the original expiry date in 2036.
