The Maui fires in 2025 began with a brush fire first reported on the morning of June 15, 2025, near Mile 24 and 25 of the Piʻilani Highway in a remote area called Kahikinui. The fire was initially reported around 9:54 a.m. and quickly grew, fueled by strong winds in challenging terrain.
For context, there was also a major devastating series of wildfires on Maui that began earlier, on August 8, 2023, which caused extensive damage and loss of life, but the 2025 fires started specifically on June 15, 2025.
