when did the bahamas gain independence

The Bahamas gained independence from the United Kingdom on July 10, 1973. The British House of Lords voted for independence on June 22, 1973, and the official independence documents were delivered to Prime Minister Lynden Pindling by Prince Charles on July 10, 1973. This date is now celebrated as Bahamas Independence Day. The Bahamas also joined the Commonwealth of Nations on that same day.
