Selena Quintanilla, the American singer known as the Queen of Tejano music, died on March 31, 1995. She was fatally shot by Yolanda Saldívar, the president of her fan club, at the Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, Texas. Selena was pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m. at Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital at the age of 23. The cause of death was from excessive blood loss after a bullet severed an artery in her chest. She was just weeks shy of her 24th birthday at the time of her death.
