Deion Sanders officially retired from playing professional football at the end of the 2005 NFL season. He had come out of a previous retirement and played for the Baltimore Ravens during the 2004 and 2005 seasons before retiring permanently in January 2006. Before that, Sanders had retired abruptly in July 2001 after playing one season with the Washington Redskins. Since then, he has transitioned into coaching and other roles in football but his playing career ended in 2006.
Currently, Deion Sanders is actively coaching the Colorado Buffaloes football team and has no plans to retire from coaching anytime soon, even signing a contract extension with Colorado through 2029.
