The COVID-19 pandemic in India started with the first reported cases on January 30, 2020. These initial cases were detected in three towns of Kerala among Indian medical students who had returned from Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the pandemic. Lockdowns to control the spread began later, with Kerala announcing its lockdown on March 23, 2020, followed by a nationwide lockdown from March 25, 2020.
