The first Starbucks store opened on March 30, 1971, in Seattle, Washington. Initially, it was located at 2000 Western Avenue before moving in 1976 to its current and more famous location at 1912 Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle
. The store originally sold whole bean coffee, tea, and spices, not brewed coffee, which was introduced later in 1982
. The founders were Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowker, who started the company inspired by coffee roasting entrepreneur Alfred Peet
