Dwight D. Eisenhower was in World War II. During the war, he served as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe and achieved the five-star rank of General of the Army. He planned and supervised major military campaigns including Operation Torch in North Africa and the invasion of Normandy (D-Day) in 1944. Eisenhower led the Allied forces through the liberation of France and the invasion of Germany, ultimately accepting Germany's surrender in May 1945
