The two main tributaries that feed the Nile River are the White Nile and the Blue Nile.
- The White Nile is the longer tributary, originating from Lake Victoria in Tanzania and flowing north through Uganda and Sudan until it meets the Blue Nile at Khartoum, Sudan
- The Blue Nile starts from Lake Tana in the Ethiopian Highlands and flows about 1,400 kilometers to Khartoum, where it joins the White Nile. The Blue Nile contributes about 59% of the Nile's water and carries most of the sediment during the Ethiopian rainy season
These two tributaries converge at Khartoum to form the main Nile River, which then flows north through Sudan and Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea
