After getting lip fillers, it is normal to experience some swelling, redness, and even bruising. Here is what to expect in the days following your lip filler injections:
- Day 1: Apply an ice pack for up to 10 minutes to reduce inflammation, pain, and swelling.
- Day 2-3: Expect inflammation, swelling, bruising, and bumps. You may feel sensitivity, tenderness, and discomfort.
- Day 4: Bruising on the lips may appear around the fourth day. You may see the formation of bumps inside the lips as well. However, these issues will resolve by the end of the first week.
- Day 7: Lip filler injections have a short recovery period and your lips will be at their best around seven days after the procedure. The body’s natural response to the filler injection is to swell, so it’s important to keep this in mind.
To help minimize excessive swelling and reduce any discomfort, it’s fine to apply ice immediately after your appointment and in the days following, as needed. It is also recommended to avoid intense exercise for at least 24 to 48 hours following a dermal filler procedure, drink plenty of water to help your body heal, and avoid steam rooms or heated fitness classes for at least 48 hours after a procedure. The results of lip fillers are not permanent, and most fillers will last approximately 6 to 8 weeks.
