Rosa Parks was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, on February 4, 1913. She grew up in Pine Level, Alabama, where she attended a rural school. Later, she attended Montgomery Industrial School for Girls and Booker T. Washington Junior High School. She then transferred to the laboratory school set up by the Alabama State Teachers College for Negroes for secondary education, but dropped out to care for her grandmother and later her mother, after they became ill. She received her high school diploma in 1934, after her marriage to Raymond Parks, December 18, 1932.
