He played football for the Iowa State Cyclones and was their starting quarterback for four years, becoming the winningest quarterback in Cyclones history. Purdy was a three-star quarterback at Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona, where he won Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year honors after his 2017 season.
