The retailer originally named Sound of Music is Best Buy. It was founded in 1966 by Richard M. Schulze and a business partner as an audio specialty store called Sound of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1981, after a tornado hit one of the Sound of Music stores and a successful "Tornado Sale" was held, the company shifted its business model towards a superstore format. This transition led to the renaming of the company as Best Buy in 1983, reflecting its new focus on offering a wide range of consumer electronics at competitive prices.
