The polymer synthesized during transcription is messenger RNA (mRNA). This mRNA is a polymer made of ribonucleotides, which are linked together by the enzyme RNA polymerase using one strand of the DNA as a template. The mRNA molecule carries the genetic information copied from DNA in the form of a sequence of bases and serves as a temporary blueprint for protein synthesis.
