The Wii MotionPlus is an expansion device for the Wii Remote, the primary game controller for the Wii. It allows more complex motion to be interpreted than the Wii Remote can do alone. The accessory was first released in June 2009, and a later hardware revision of the Wii Remote, the Wii Remote Plus, was later released with the Wii MotionPlus technology built-in. The MotionPlus contains additional sensors that make the Wii Remote respond to the slightest movement, motion, or twist of the wrist. With it, the position of the controller can be tracked in real-time, and the accessory is designed to improve the Wii remotes accuracy and control. The Wii MotionPlus must be used with a Wii Remote, which is sold separately. The accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more precise motion sensing. The Wii and its successor, the Wii U, support the Wii MotionPlus accessory in games. The accessory was created to address developer demand for more capable motion sensing.
