In fantasy football, a waiver claim is a request made by a team owner to add a player who is not currently on their teams roster. Waivers are used to manage the distribution of free agents among teams and to give everyone a fair chance to claim them. When a team owner submits a waiver claim for a player, it goes through a specified period (usually 24-48 hours) before the waiver claims are processed. The team with the highest waiver priority that submitted a claim for a particular player will get that player. Once a teams claim is successful, their waiver priority drops to the bottom of the list, and they will have to wait until their turn comes again to make another claim. If no team claims a player during the waiver period, they become a free agent and can be added by any team on a first-come, first-served basis. The waiver order and pool of players can reset each week. It is important to note that the waiver rules and waiver claim priority can be set by the leagues commissioner.
