They often manifest as complacency, overconfidence, negligence, impulsiveness, resistance to rules, or a sense of invulnerability, where individuals believe accidents happen to others but not themselves
. Specifically, in workplace safety, five common hazardous attitudes have been identified:
- Anti-Authority: Resisting rules or instructions, believing they don’t apply or are unnecessary.
- Impulsivity: Acting quickly without thinking through consequences.
- Invulnerability: Feeling immune to accidents or harm.
- Macho: Taking unnecessary risks to prove oneself.
- Resignation: Feeling powerless to influence outcomes, leaving safety to chance
These attitudes lead to poor judgment and risk assessment, increasing the chance of accidents or injuries. Addressing unsafe attitudes through education, training, and fostering a strong safety culture is vital for preventing incidents and promoting overall safety
