The title of the first book printed in the Philippines is Doctrina Christiana (Christian Doctrine). It was printed in Manila in 1593 and is considered the earliest known book printed in the country. This book was produced in two editions: one in Spanish and Tagalog for the local Filipino population, and another in Chinese for the Chinese community in Manila. The Spanish-Tagalog version is attributed to the Franciscan friar Juan de Plasencia
