The prize money for the Great North Run is as follows for both men and women:
- 1st place: £1,500
- 2nd place: £1,250
- 3rd place: £750
- 4th place: £500
- 5th place: £300
These prizes apply if 10 or more male or female athletes take part, with fewer participants resulting in fewer prize positions being awarded according to the event's prize money regulations
. Additionally, for competitive wheelchair athletes in racing wheelchairs, prize money is also offered, with the top three positions receiving the same amounts as above (£1,500, £1,250, £750)
. This prize structure is consistent across the Great North Run and other Great Run events like the Great Manchester Run and Great South Run
