Manglik Dosha, also known as Mangal Dosh, is a Hindu superstition prevalent in India. It is a belief that a person born under the influence of Mars as per Hindu astrology is said to have "mangala dosha"; such a person is called a Mangalika (or Manglik) . According to astrology, if Mars is in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th position in a persons horoscope, then the person is considered to be suffering from Manglik Dosha. This dosha is believed to cause problems in marriage and married life of a person. People who believe in this superstition think that a Manglik person will cause their non-manglik spouses early death. To prevent this disaster, the person may be married to a tree, an animal, or an inanimate object. This mock marriage custom has different names depending on the "spouse" used in the ceremony; for example, if the person is married to a clay pot (kumbha), the ceremony is called "kumbh-vivah" ("wedding with a pot") . However, astrology says that even if a Manglik person is married to a non-Manglik, then there are tribulations and sorrows in the married life and sometimes the life partner is also left behind. Astrology also says that it is right to get a Manglik married to a Manglik as the marriage of the two of them automatically ends the Manglik Dosh.
