The European Commission is the executive arm of the European Union (EU) and is responsible for proposing and enforcing legislation, implementing policies and the EU budget, and representing the EU in international negotiations. It operates as a cabinet government, with 27 members of the Commission headed by a President. The Commissioners work on specific policy priorities that are set out by the Commission President. The Commission is the sole EU institution tabling laws for adoption by the Parliament and the Council, and it manages EU policies and allocates EU funding. The European Commission is made up of the College of Commissioners, 27 European Commissioners, one for each member state. The Commissioners are nominated by their respective member states and are subject to a vote of approval by the European Parliament. The current President of the European Commission is Ursula von der Leyen, and the current Commission is the Von der Leyen Commission, which took office in December 2019.
