Animalism is the philosophy created by the pig Old Major in the book Animal Farm. It is the concept that the animals base their government on in Animal Farm, and it rejects all things human. Animalism states that animals are equal and humans are the enemy. The animals of Mr. Jones Manor Farm embrace Animalism and stage a revolution to achieve an idealistic state of justice and progress. Napoleon, a power-hungry pig, becomes a totalitarian dictator who leads the Animal Farm into oppression. The pigs, deemed the wisest animals on the farm, create seven commandments to ensure the happiness and equality of all creatures on Animal Farm. Animalism is really communism, and Manor Farm is allegorical of Russia, and the farmer Mr. Jones is the Russian Czar. Old Major stands for either Karl Marx or Vladimir Lenin. The main themes in Animal Farm include leadership and corruption, control of naïve working class, lies and deception, and dreams and hopes.
