An RMT is a Registered Massage Therapist, a regulated health profession in Ontario, Canada, and other parts of the world. RMTs are required to be registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario or other regulatory bodies in their respective regions. They have completed competency-based education at a recognized school of massage therapy and have successfully completed examinations to ensure that they have the necessary competencies to safely and effectively offer massage therapy care. RMTs can work with a variety of patients in the treatment of illness, injury rehabilitation, and disability. Massage therapy can be used to treat both acute and chronic conditions, and RMTs can provide relief for a wide range of conditions such as migraine headaches, tendonitis, arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, as well as many other common conditions related to soft tissue and joint dysfunction. A referral or prescription is not required to visit an RMT, although some insurance companies may require this for your claim to be reimbursed.
