The Antichrist is a figure in Christian eschatology who is prophesied by the Bible to oppose Jesus Christ and substitute themselves in Christs place before the Second Coming. The term "Antichrist" is found four times in the New Testament, solely in the letters of John. The meaning of the term "Antichrist" is simply "against Christ". The Antichrist is considered to be the polar opposite and ultimate enemy of Christ, who will reign terribly in the period prior to the Last Judgment. According to Christian tradition, the Antichrist will seek world domination and will attempt to destroy all followers of Jesus Christ and the nation of Israel. The Antichrist is believed to be identifiable in a number of ways, such as promising peace to those who follow him, gaining control of the world economy, and being a liar and a deceiver. There have been many "antichrists" throughout history, but most Bible prophecy experts believe that the Antichrist will be the ultimate embodiment of what it means to be against Christ.
