A neck roll is a dangerous tackle in rugby that involves a player taking an opponent down by grabbing their head and neck and rolling to the ground. It typically occurs in a ruck situation when an attacking player attempts to remove a defender in a jackal position over the ball. The technique is best executed when a defender can grapple with an opponent, placing his or her arms around the shoulder or midriff to force the opponents head down and to the side. Neck rolls are considered a dangerous offence and can result in a straight yellow card.
