There are two different things that can be referred to as "hakka": a silicone breast pump and an ethnic group of China.

  • Haakaa: A Haakaa is a silicone breast pump that suctions to the breast and collects letdown milk on the opposite breast. It is more efficient than other milk savers and can collect anywhere from 1-4 oz per feed. It is easy to use and does not require any work.

  • Hakka people: The Hakka are an ethnic group of China whose ancestral homes are chiefly in the Hakka-speaking provincial areas of Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Sichuan, Hunan, Zhejiang, Hainan, and Guizhou in China, as well as in Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Pingtung County, and Kaohsiung City in Taiwan. The name Hakka means "guest families" in Chinese. The Hakka people migrated from North China to South China in two large migrations, one in the early 4th century and another in the late 9th century, and their final migration in the 13th century took them farther south to their present areas of concentration. They never became fully assimilated into the native population and have their own communities. The Hakka language has affinities with both Cantonese and Mandarin.
