Scrappy-Doo is a fictional Great Dane puppy created by Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1979. He is the nephew of Scooby-Doo in various incarnations of the franchise. Scrappy was first included in the Scooby-Doo franchise in 1979, and he was added to the gang for a single season as a last-ditch effort to save the franchise. Scrappy was a considerable success and single-handedly charged in to save the franchise. However, this would be the beginning of the end for him and eventually lead him to be the most controversial and hated cartoon character. Scrappy was unceremoniously dropped from the franchise at the end of the 1980s and hasnt been allowed back into the TV series since. In the 2002 Scooby-Doo movie, Scrappy was mentioned by Shaggy and Scooby offhand and was heavily implied to have been put to sleep for undisclosed reasons. In the 2018 fan-fiction story, "Scrappy Doo has been found dead in Miami," which went viral on Twitter, Scrappy was killed off.
