According to the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, Dumbledore tells Harry that he sees himself holding a pair of thick, woolen socks when he looks in the Mirror of Erised. However, as the series progresses, it becomes clear that Dumbledores deepest desire probably had nothing to do with cozy foot accessories. In Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Dumbledore is shown pulling a sheet off of the Mirror and gazing into it. The preview then cuts to a quick shot of an even younger Dumbledore peering at a younger Grindelwald in the Mirror, indicating that Dumbledores deepest desire may have changed over time. In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Harry realizes that Dumbledore sees the same thing as him - his family, alive and well.
