A verruca, also known as a plantar wart, typically appears as a round lump with a rough, cauliflower-like surface. When located on weight-bearing areas of the foot, it may be flattened and have a crumbly texture. Verrucas often have tiny black dots in the center, which are actually small blood clots caused by bleeding within the wart. They can vary in size from about 1mm to over 1cm and may appear as a single lesion or in clusters called mosaic verrucas. The skin lines (striae) around a verruca usually do not cross over its surface, which helps distinguish it from corns or calluses. Verrucas are usually greyish-white or light brown and can be painful, especially when pressure is applied while walking or standing
