The car used in the Ghostbusters franchise is known as the Ectomobile or Ecto-1. It is a modified 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Sentinel limo-style endloader combination car (ambulance conversion) used in the 1984 film Ghostbusters and other Ghostbusters fiction. The original vehicle design was the creation of Steven Dane, credited as a Hardware Consultant in the credits. The car was modified with various ghost-catching equipment, including a folding ramp in the floor to assist in deployment of the Remote Trap Vehicle (RTV), a ghost trap fitted with a radio-controlled car that can follow the Cadillac. There is also a compartment in the vehicle that can carry the RTV. The Ecto-1 is a hearse-style car that is white in color with a red siren on top. Two cars were brought in for the shoot of the Ghostbusters (1984), of which one stopped running. The Ecto-1 is a popular movie car and has become a four-wheel movie icon. A replica of the Ecto-1 Cadillac was on display at Glasgows Riverside Museum in 2022.
