OTP stands for "One-Time Password" or "One-Time PIN". It is a code that is used to authenticate a single session or transaction on a digital device. OTPs are sent via SMS and are mostly used for financial transactions, as well as part of the two-factor authentication for different apps. OTPs are only good for a limited period of time, usually around 10 minutes, and expire after a certain period of time.
Recently, Google Messages has introduced a new feature that automatically deletes OTP messages after 24 hours to reduce clutter in your inbox. OTP messages can be sent via SMS, voice, or push message, but the most common way to send OTPs is by mobile messaging, typically an SMS text to the customers cellphone.
