A 20-year-old man named Kavan Markwood fell about 21 feet from the bleachers onto the field at PNC Park during a Pittsburgh Pirates game against the Chicago Cubs on April 30, 2025. The fall occurred during the seventh inning as he celebrated a play, apparently slipping off a railing in right field near the Clemente Wall. He was immediately tended to on the field and then taken to the hospital in critical condition with severe injuries including fractures to his neck, clavicle, back, ribs, skull, brain, spine, and lungs

. Ethan Kirkwood, a 21-year-old from McKeesport, Pennsylvania, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor after admitting to police that he purchased beer for Markwood inside the stadium. Surveillance footage showed Kirkwood buying two 24-ounce cans of Miller Lite and giving them to Markwood, who reportedly drank two beers before the fall. Kirkwood was seen on video handing a can to a female and then jumping over a railing to help Markwood after the fall

. Markwood has been slowly recovering and recently took his first steps since the accident, though he still faces a long recovery due to the severity of his injuries. His family and friends have been raising funds to support his rehabilitation. The Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety has classified the incident as accidental
