Julian Assange is currently in Australia, having returned there after being released from a UK prison in June 2024. He was freed following a plea deal in which he admitted guilt to one count of conspiracy to obtain and disclose classified US national defense documents. After his release from Belmarsh prison in London, he was flown to a US court in Saipan for sentencing, then returned to Australia. Since then, he has been living with his wife Stella Assange and their two young sons in his native country, focusing on recovering from his long legal ordeal and imprisonment. Assange has made some public appearances advocating for free speech but is still in the process of adjusting to life outside prison.
