Six Flags America in Bowie, Maryland, is closing permanently after the 2025 operating season, with the park's final day of operation scheduled for November 2, 2025. The closure is part of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation's portfolio optimization strategy, as Six Flags America and its water park Hurricane Harbor are not considered strategic fits for the company's long-term growth plans. The 500-acre property will be marketed for redevelopment. The decision was described as difficult but necessary by Six Flags' CEO Richard Zimmerman. Severance and benefits will be provided to the approximately 70 full-time employees affected. Six Flags has no plans to close any other parks at this time but will continue to evaluate options to enhance shareholder value.
