How card expiry works
The expiry printed as MM/YY generally means the card is valid until the end of that month, not the beginning. For example, if it says 12/25, it should work through 31 December 2025 but not on 1 January 2026.
Once the month ends, transactions on that physical card will be declined, even though your underlying credit or debit account may still be active. Issuers typically send a replacement card before expiry, with a new expiration date and security code.
