Derrick Groves was caught after almost five months on the run following a jailbreak from a New Orleans jail in May 2025. His capture happened at a home in southwest Atlanta where law enforcement, including the U.S. Marshals and Atlanta Police SWAT team, conducted a coordinated search operation based on tips from Crime Stoppers Greater New Orleans. After a standoff involving gas canisters being deployed by the SWAT team to flush him out, Groves was found hiding in a crawl space inside the residence. He was arrested without serious injury after the standoff that lasted a few hours and was the last of ten inmates who had escaped from the Orleans Parish Justice Center on May 16, 2025.
