To turn off Scroll Lock in Excel, you can follow these steps:

  • Press the Scroll Lock key (ScrLk) on your keyboard if your keyboard has one. This key toggles Scroll Lock on and off, and when turned off, the "Scroll Lock" indicator disappears from Excel’s status bar
  • If your keyboard lacks a Scroll Lock key , use the On-Screen Keyboard in Windows:
    1. Open the On-Screen Keyboard by clicking Start, then Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard, and turn on "Use the On-Screen Keyboard" (or press Windows key + Ctrl + O).
    2. On the On-Screen Keyboard, click the "ScrLk" key to toggle Scroll Lock off. When off, the key is no longer highlighted
  • On some laptops , Scroll Lock can be toggled with a key combination such as Fn + C (HP, Lenovo) or Fn + S (Dell)
  • Verify Scroll Lock status in Excel by looking at the status bar at the bottom of the window. If Scroll Lock is on, it will display "Scroll Lock"; if off, that message disappears
  • Additionally, you can right-click the status bar and enable or disable the Scroll Lock indicator to monitor its status more easily

This will restore normal arrow key behavior, moving the active cell rather than scrolling the worksheet without changing the selection
