To turn off location services on your iPhone, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Privacy & Security.
- Tap Location Services at the top.
- Toggle the switch to off to disable all location services on your device.
Turning off Location Services will stop all apps and system services from accessing your location, including Maps and Find My iPhone (though Find My iPhone can temporarily restore location if Lost Mode is enabled)
. If you prefer to disable location access only for specific apps instead of turning off all location services:
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.
- Make sure Location Services is on.
- Scroll down to the app you want to adjust.
- Tap the app and select one of the options:
- Never (no location access)
- Ask Next Time Or When I Share
- While Using the App
- Always
You can also toggle off Precise Location for apps, which allows apps to see only your approximate location instead of your exact GPS coordinates
. For a quick temporary disable, you can also turn on Airplane Mode from the Control Center, which will disable location services until you turn Airplane Mode off
. This provides you flexibility to manage your location privacy on your iPhone either globally or on a per-app basis.
