To turn off the Instagram map and stop sharing your location, follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app and tap the paper airplane icon (Messages) in the top right.
- Tap "Map" at the top of your inbox.
- Tap the gear icon (Settings) in the top right of the map screen.
- Under location sharing settings, select "No one" to stop sharing your location.
- Additionally, on your phone (iPhone or Android), go to the device's Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services (or Apps > Instagram > Permissions on Android) and set Instagram's location permission to "Never" or "Deny." This prevents Instagram from accessing your location altogether.
This combination ensures no one can see your location on the Instagram map, and Instagram cannot access your location from your device unless you choose to turn it back on later. The location sharing is opt-in and off by default unless enabled, but these steps fully turn it off if it was previously turned on.
