To throw a frisbee effectively, follow these key steps:
Basic Backhand Throw (Most Common and Easiest)
- Grip the Frisbee : Hold the frisbee with a medium-strength grip-four fingers underneath the rim and your thumb on top. The grip should be firm enough so the disc doesn’t slip but not too tight
- Body Position : Point your shoulder and hips toward your target. Your elbow should be bent at more than a 90-degree angle, with your arm and disc in the same plane
- Throwing Motion :
- Start by pulling your arm back.
- As you throw, extend your elbow toward the target.
- Snap your wrist to give the frisbee spin.
- Release the disc when your arm is fully extended and your index finger points toward the target.
- Follow through by keeping your arm extended after release
- Keep the Frisbee Flat : Aim to throw the frisbee flat and straight to avoid it turning over or curving unintentionally
Forehand (Flick) Throw
- Grip : Hold the frisbee like shaking hands with it-thumb on top, fingers underneath or split finger grip for beginners
- Body Position : Face your hips toward the target, with your arm out to the side at about a 45-degree angle.
- Throwing Motion : Pull your wrist back and then flick it forward, rolling the frisbee off your thumb to generate spin. The disc will fly at a slight angle and gradually level out
Tips for Accuracy and Distance
- Keep your grip relaxed but secure.
- Use your shoulder, elbow, and wrist together for power and control.
- Practice pointing your elbow and extending your arm straight toward the target for consistent throws
- For longer throws, stay loose, keep the disc level, and shift your weight from back to front as you throw
By practicing these techniques, you can throw a frisbee straight and with good distance
