You can tell if your number is blocked by looking for several signs across calls and messages. While none of these methods are 100% definitive alone, combining them gives a clearer indication:
Signs Your Number May Be Blocked
- Calls go straight to voicemail or ring once then go to voicemail : If your calls immediately go to voicemail without ringing or ring only once before voicemail, it often means your number is blocked. However, this can also happen if the person’s phone is off, busy, or in Do Not Disturb mode
- No “Delivered” or “Read” status on messages : On iPhone iMessage, if your texts never show “Delivered” or “Read” receipts, it may mean you’re blocked. On Android, lack of delivery status can also be a sign, though not all devices show this
- Messages remain undelivered or pending : Text messages that do not get delivered or remain pending indefinitely can indicate blocking
- *Calling from a different number or with caller ID hidden (67) : If calls from your number go to voicemail but calls from a different number or with caller ID hidden ring normally or are answered, it strongly suggests you are blocked
- Social media and messaging apps : If you’re blocked on apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, or Viber, your messages won’t show delivered or read checkmarks. Also, if you no longer see the person’s posts or profile, it may indicate blocking
How to Test If You Are Blocked
- Call the person normally and note the ringing pattern or if it goes to voicemail immediately.
- Send a text and check if it shows delivered or read.
- Call again with your caller ID hidden (dial *67 before the number).
- Call from a different phone number.
- Check messaging apps for delivery and read receipts.
- Look for changes in social media visibility.
If calls from your number go to voicemail immediately but calls from a different number ring normally, and your messages never get delivered, you have likely been blocked
Additional Notes
- You can still leave voicemails even if blocked, but the person won’t get a missed call notification
- These signs can also be caused by technical issues or the person using Do Not Disturb or airplane mode, so consider the full context before concluding
- Respect privacy and boundaries if you confirm you are blocked.
In summary, look for immediate voicemail redirects, lack of message delivery/read receipts, and different call behavior when using another number or hiding your caller ID to tell if your number is blocked
