To take a screenshot on an iPad, the method depends on whether your iPad has a Home button or not:
- iPad without a Home button: Press the top button (power button) and either volume button simultaneously, then quickly release both buttons. A screenshot thumbnail will appear temporarily in the lower-left corner of the screen. You can tap it to edit or swipe left to dismiss it. The screenshot is saved automatically to the Photos app under Albums > Screenshots
- iPad with a Home button: Press the top button and the Home button simultaneously, then quickly release both buttons. The screenshot thumbnail appears similarly and is saved to Photos
Additional methods include:
- Using a corner swipe gesture: On iPadOS 16 or 17, you can enable "Swipe Finger from Corner" in Settings under Multitasking & Gestures or General > Gestures. Then swipe diagonally from the lower-left or lower-right corner toward the center of the screen to take a screenshot
- Using Apple Pencil: Swipe from the bottom corner of the screen with the Apple Pencil to capture a screenshot instantly
- AssistiveTouch: If hardware buttons are difficult to use, enable AssistiveTouch in Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch. Then tap the on-screen AssistiveTouch button, go to Device > More > Screenshot to capture a screenshot without physical buttons
After capturing, screenshots are found in the Photos app, under the Screenshots album for easy access
. In summary, the quickest standard method is:
- For iPads without Home button: press Top + Volume Up (or Down) simultaneously.
- For iPads with Home button: press Top + Home simultaneously.
