To take a screenshot on a Windows PC, you have several easy methods:
Using the Print Screen (PrtSc) Key
- Press the PrtSc key to capture the entire screen. This copies the screenshot to your clipboard. You can then paste it (Ctrl + V) into an image editor like Paint or a document to save or edit it
- To capture only the active window, press Alt + PrtSc. This also copies the image to the clipboard for pasting elsewhere
- To capture the entire screen and automatically save it as a file, press Windows key + PrtSc. The screenshot is saved in the "Screenshots" folder inside your Pictures library
Using Snipping Tool or Snip & Sketch
- Press Windows key + Shift + S to open the snipping toolbar, which lets you select a rectangular area, freeform shape, window, or full screen to capture. The screenshot is copied to the clipboard and a notification appears to open it in Snipping Tool for editing or saving
- You can also open the Snipping Tool app from the Start menu to take screenshots with delay options and annotation features
Additional Tips
- On laptops, you may need to press the Fn key along with PrtSc if the key is shared with other functions
- For tablets, press Windows button + volume down to take a screenshot
These methods cover quick full-screen captures, window-only shots, and custom area snips with editing capabilities built into Windows
