To take a picture on a Mac using the built-in webcam, the easiest way is to use the Photo Booth app:
- Open the Photo Booth app from the Applications folder, Launchpad, or Spotlight search.
- The camera will turn on automatically, and a green light will appear near the webcam.
- Click the red camera button at the bottom of the screen to take a photo.
- You can also apply fun effects by clicking the "Effects" button before taking the photo.
- The photo will appear at the bottom of the app window, where you can save or share it.
For screenshots (pictures of your screen rather than the webcam), use these keyboard shortcuts:
- Command + Shift + 3 to capture the entire screen.
- Command + Shift + 4 to capture a selected portion (drag to select area).
- After using Command + Shift + 4, press spacebar to capture a specific window by clicking on it.
Photos taken with Photo Booth or screenshots are saved automatically, usually to the desktop or you can export photos within Photo Booth. This method offers a simple way to take photos directly using your Mac without additional software.
