To see location on Instagram, here are the main ways you can view or share location:

Location Tags in Posts or Stories
Users can add location tags to their posts or stories to share either a general location (like a city) or a specific venue. Anyone who can see the post (followers or public if the profile is public) can see the tagged location. -
Instagram Map Feature (New as of August 2025)
Instagram introduced a new real-time location-sharing map. To use it:- Go to your Instagram DM inbox.
- Tap the map icon next to the Notes section.
- If you opt in, your location will show on the map and update when you use the app.
- You choose who sees your location: friends (mutual followers), close friends, specific people, or no one.
- You can also see location-based content like stories and reels posted with location tags for 24 hours on the map.
This feature is off by default and requires your permission to share location.

Location Sharing in Live Streams or Direct Messages
Users can choose to share location during live streams or directly share a location via direct messages with friends. -
Viewing Location on a User’s Profile
For business or creator accounts, you may find location info in the bio or via the “About this account” option from their profile menu. -
Device Location Settings
To enable location tagging or sharing on Instagram, ensure Instagram access to your device location is enabled via your phone settings (Privacy > Location Services).
