To rotate the screen on a Chromebook, you have two main methods:
1. Using Keyboard Shortcuts (Fastest Method)
- Press and hold Ctrl + Shift , then press the Refresh key (which looks like a circular arrow and is located in the top row of the keyboard).
- Each time you press this combination, the screen will rotate 90 degrees clockwise.
- A pop-up will appear asking you to confirm the rotation; click Continue to apply it.
- You can keep pressing the shortcut to cycle through 0°, 90°, 180°, and 270° rotations
2. Using System Settings (More Control)
- Click the time in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Click the Settings (gear) icon.
- Navigate to Device > Displays.
- Find the Orientation dropdown menu.
- Choose your preferred rotation: 0° (default), 90°, 180°, or 270°.
- The screen will rotate accordingly and stay that way until changed again
Additional Notes
- If your Chromebook is a tablet or 2-in-1 device, it may auto-rotate the screen when physically rotated. You can enable or disable auto-rotate by tapping the time, then toggling the Lock icon to unlock or lock screen rotation
- Rotating the screen also affects how the trackpad and mouse behave, as their input orientation changes with the screen rotation
- If the keyboard shortcut doesn't work, ensure function keys are enabled in Settings > Device > Keyboard by turning on "Treat top-row as function keys"
This covers all ways to rotate your Chromebook screen efficiently.
