To put a tampon in, follow these steps:
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water to keep everything clean
- Get comfortable by sitting on the toilet with knees apart, standing with one foot on a raised surface, or squatting. Relax your muscles and take deep breaths to ease insertion
- Unwrap the tampon carefully. If it has an applicator, familiarize yourself with its parts: the larger outer tube (holding the tampon), the grip area, and the smaller inner tube (plunger)
- Locate your vaginal opening by gently spreading the labia (vaginal lips) with one hand
- Insert the tampon applicator :
- Hold the tampon at the grip.
- Place the rounded tip at your vaginal opening.
- Angle the tampon toward your lower back (not straight up) to follow the natural angle of the vagina
* Gently slide the applicator all the way in until your fingers touch your body or vulva
- Push the plunger (smaller inner tube) all the way in with your index finger to release the tampon inside your vagina
- Remove the applicator carefully, leaving the tampon inside with the string hanging outside your body
- Check comfort : If you feel discomfort or pressure, the tampon might not be inserted far enough. You can gently push it in further or remove it and try again with a new tampon
For non-applicator tampons, use your finger to insert the tampon directly into your vagina at the same angle toward your lower back, leaving the string outside
. Remember, tampons cannot get lost inside because the cervix blocks the way, so don't worry about pushing it too far
. This method ensures the tampon is positioned comfortably and effectively to absorb menstrual flow
