To private chat in Roblox, you have several options depending on whether you want to chat inside a game or outside of it:
Private Chatting Inside a Game
- Join a game that supports chat.
- To whisper (private message) someone:
- Click or tap on their username in the chat box, which will automatically set the chat to private with that user.
- Alternatively, type
/w [username]
followed by your message in the chat bar.
- Both you and the other player need to engage in the private chat by clicking each other's usernames to maintain the private conversation.
- Note that some games may not allow private chats if the chat feature is disabled by the developer
Private Chatting Outside a Game
- Make sure the person you want to chat with is on your friends list.
- Visit their profile and click the "Chat" button to start a private conversation.
- You can also create group chats by clicking the chat icon, selecting "Add Group," choosing up to five friends, naming the group, and starting the chat.
- On mobile, tap the user's profile and then the chat button to message them, or create group chats via the "Connect" > "Chats" > edit icon path
Important Notes
- Users under 13 have restricted chat capabilities due to Roblox's safety policies, which may limit or remove chat features.
- You can adjust your chat privacy settings by going to Settings > Privacy & Content Maturity > Communication > Experience Chat to control who can message you
- If private chat is not working, check your privacy settings and toggle communication permissions as needed
