To post anonymously in a Facebook group, the group admin must first enable the anonymous posting feature. Once enabled, members can create posts that do not show their names to other group members, but the identity remains visible to group admins, moderators, and Facebook. Here is how to post anonymously on a Facebook group:
From Desktop:
- Log in to Facebook and go to the group where you want to post.
- In the post creation area, look for the "Anonymous Post" option near the posting box.
- Click on "Anonymous Post" then a prompt will explain how anonymous posts work.
- Click "Create Anonymous Post."
- Write your post and click "Submit."
- The post will appear with a label like "Group member" instead of your name visible to others.
From Mobile:
- Open the Facebook app and navigate to the group.
- Tap "I want to Post Anonymously" if the option is available.
- Write your post and tap "Post."
- The post will appear anonymously in the group.
Important Notes:
- Only groups whose admins have enabled anonymous posting allow this feature.
- Your identity is still visible to group admins and Facebook for safety and moderation.
- Some groups may require admin approval before the anonymous post is published.
- Anonymous posts can also have anonymous comments.
- You cannot edit anonymous posts once submitted.
Enabling Anonymous Posting (For Admins):
- Go to Group Settings in Admin Tools.
- Find the "Anonymous Posting" feature and toggle it on.
- Save the changes.
When disabled, all anonymous posts disappear until re-enabled. This feature is typically available only in private groups and is designed to help members share sensitive or personal information without fear of judgment.
