To measure distance on Google Maps, the process differs slightly between desktop and mobile: On Desktop:
- Open Google Maps in a web browser.
- Right-click on the starting point on the map.
- Choose "Measure distance" from the menu.
- Click another point on the map to measure the straight-line distance between the two points.
- You can add more points by clicking further locations to measure a path.
- The total distance appears in a pop-up at the bottom.
- Points can be moved by clicking and dragging or removed by clicking on them.
- When done, close the pop-up window.
On Mobile (Google Maps app):
- Open the app and press and hold on the starting point until a red pin appears.
- Tap the pin info at the bottom, then select "Measure distance."
- Drag the map to the next point you want to measure to and tap "Add point."
- Repeat to add more points if needed.
- The total distance is displayed at the bottom left.
- You can remove the last added point with the undo button.
- To finish, exit measurement mode.
This tool measures straight-line distances between points ("as the crow flies"), not driving or walking routes. For route distances, use the directions feature instead.
